Asheville is known for film and media arts. One of the best Asheville film festivals is the Twin Rivers Media Festival every May, now beginning its 20th year. The Courtyard Gallery has special screenings of films and documentaries throughout the year, including PBS's award winning Art21 series and a World Cinema program of foreign films every Friday night at 8pm. The Black Mountain Press sponsors a scriptwriting contest and contests for short stories, novels, creative non-fiction and poetry twice a year.
